Overview

Peking Restaurant, nestled at 236 Mall Rd in Danville, WV, offers a genuine taste of Chinese cuisine that has clearly won the hearts of many locals and visitors alike. Specializing in classic dishes like Crab Rangoon, Pu Pu Platter, and Orange Chicken, this establishment balances tradition with comforting familiarity. Their seafood options, including Sweet and Sour Shrimp, Szechuan Shrimp, and Scallops with Garlic Sauce, provide a fresh and flavorful experience for lovers of ocean fare.

The restaurant's atmosphere leans toward casual and straightforward, reflecting more of a pick-up or quick dine-in style, which some might find less formal but still welcoming. While the space may not be elaborate, it holds a down-to-earth charm that suits families, regular patrons, and those seeking a reliable meal without fuss. It seems designed for convenience as much as for enjoyment, which aligns well with the steady stream of repeat customers.

Customer experiences reveal a blend of nostalgia and fresh appreciation. Long-time visitors praise the consistent quality, especially the Crab Rangoon, which many say is irresistible. One loyal guest who has frequented Peking Restaurant since the mid-90s highlights the outstanding service and delicious offerings that have stood the test of time. However, there are notes of change as well — the absence of buffet and traditional table service marks an evolution from its earlier family-friendly vibe to a more streamlined operation.

For first-timers, the restaurant offers a straightforward ordering process, often at the counter or window with minimal staff visible, yet commitment to accommodating requests remains strong. The versatility in dishes, like the combo of steamed and fried dumplings, showcases a willingness to adapt to customer preferences. Spicy food lovers may need to specify their tastes, especially with dishes like General Tao chicken, which can be adjusted for heat.

Peking Restaurant targets those who appreciate authentic Chinese flavors in a modest, unpretentious setting. Its focus on core favorites—like seafood delights and chef’s specials such as crispy chicken—ensures there is something for both regulars and newcomers. Whether you’re revisiting a beloved spot or discovering it for the first time, the experience promises hearty portions and genuine flavors.

For anyone in Danville or passing through, Peking Restaurant stands as a solid choice for a satisfying meal that marries traditional recipes with a straightforward dining experience.

My favorite Chinese restaurant! Moved out of state several years ago but whenever I’m visiting “home”, I make sure to stop in and eat! The chicken teriyaki is my absolute favorite, no one compares to this amazing food! Wish they’d open a location near me in NC lol.

This place is not like I remember. Don't get me wrong, the food still tastes so good, especially the crab Rangoon. But it seems ran down no more buffet, no table service it wasn't the family friendly Peking I remember.

I've been going here since 1995! The food is always amazing! Prices are fairly low, and their best to me is the crab Rangoon! I can eat two orders of these! I'm not a big eater, but I can pig out on those! Great service too!

First timer at this pick up restaurant. I sat for a few minutes before I was told to go to the window and order my lunch. Ironically it was the same girl. She was actually the only employee I saw in the 45 minutes I was there. Some cannot deviate from their routine. Kinda funny and a bit sad. Anyway she was accommodating as I asked who have half my portion of dumplings steamed and half fried to try them both ways. delicious! The only complaint would be to have more broccoli in the General Tao chicken. And I would have enjoyed it spicy as it is the way I'm used to having it. All said, I will be returning once a month when in the area. Looking forward to those dumplings..

Has the best Chinese food I have had since moving up here from Orlando. To me it is worth the drive from South Charleston compared to eating at places in Charleston.
